Vicki Abbinante, PhDK-12 School Safety Program Coordinator Will County Emergency Management Agency
As a 35 year educator, Dr. Abbinante’s career has included classroom and special education teacher, and school administrative positions at all levels. She currently serves as K-12 School Safety Program Coordinator for Will County Emergency Management Agency in Illinois, as well as Vice Chair of The Children and Disaster Caucus for the International Association of Emergency Managers.
Dr. Abbinante has earned several degrees from universities in her native Illinois, as well as her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Change at Walden University. Her dissertation and subsequent research have focused on multi-option response to active shooters in schools and training whole school communities how to become resilient in the age of active-shooter events and other crisis events impacting our schools.
Dr. Abbinante was recently nominated for the prestigious alumni of the year award at Walden University for her work in this field. Besides sharing her research, Dr. Abbinante frequently speaks on resilient school communities, the importance of training all members of the school community, including parents, as well as the importance of designing comprehensive family reunification plans.
