Daniel Dusseau

Director Public Safety/Chief of Police

Northern Virginia Community College

Daniel Dusseau currently serves as the Chief of Police at Northern Virginia Community College and has been involved in public safety for 27 years. He started as a retail security officer and became a police officer with the Prince George’s County Police Department. In that capacity he worked in or oversaw operations in almost all aspects of law enforcement before retiring at the rank of Major. While there he was credited with reducing crime, decreasing administrative backlogs, establishing controls that reduced complaints and oversaw more than 5,000 investigations. Upon retiring in 2010, he became the Chief of Police at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). With over 78,000 students from 178 countries, NOVA is one of the largest community college in the United States. Chief Dusseau oversees security at 12 separate locations. Prior to his arrival, police and security were decentralized and the college experienced an active shooter. Since his arrival, he has revamped all aspects of police operations, resulting in a reduction of crimes by 80% in three years; experienced a Department of Education Clery audit; and has changed the Department’s and the College’s approach and attitude toward safety.
