Two Bills Aimed at School Safety Passed in Utah

Breaking News

Bills were passed by the Utah legislator this week that attempt to protect students in the classroom and online.

Two bills, one concerning students inside the classroom and one concerning students outside of the classroom, were passed by the legislature in Utah this week.

HB345, a bill that would prevent sex offenders from working with students, passed the Utah Senate without debate, while HB213, which provides students with more security in virtual learning environments, passed with the support of many parents who say their children were exposed to pornographic material on school devices, according to the Deseret News.

Both bills include additional amendments.  HB345 also redefines the Utah Board of Education’s role to give them final authority in teacher licensure.  HB213 requires educators to talk with parents about teaching children internet safety.

The bills will now be sent to Governor Gary Herbert’s desk to be signed into law.
